Believe in Impossibilities at the Best Magic Show in Pigeon Forge
-By Jessica Bookstaff Doppelt
Impossibilities: An Evening of Magic, Mind Reading & Mayhem is very much the product of its two eclectic creators. While many magic shows in Pigeon Forge have some sort of thematic “hook,” Impossibilities is instead two performers simply showcasing what they do best.
On one side, you have a magician with a knack for audience participation and snappy joke-telling. Chris Collins, a self-labeled “magical comedian,” puts plenty of twists on old tricks while upping the ante with original illusions of his own. His biggest emphasis is on engaging his audience, either directly by having them briefly play assistant during a feat or indirectly with his wit and requests for call-outs. He describes his performance as “fast paced, exciting and different.”
On the other side, you have mentalist and psychic performer Erik Dobell. His preferred title is “Mind Invader,” but considering his disarming definition of mentalism as “using psychology and chicanery to give the illusion of psychic powers,” one can assume that he does not take himself too seriously. What he does take seriously is entertaining through the prospect of impossibility. His feats of deduction will have you quickly realizing that mentalism is more than just a series of good guesses. He also demonstrates “psychic” abilities like bending nails and moving objects with his mind.
