We all have that one, life changing moment. That moment we look at now and think to ourselves "what if that didn't happen?" My moment happened in a rather unlikely place.
When you ask most Magicians how they became interested in Magic they usually have very similar stories. They saw a Magician when they were very young, they fell in love with Magic and they grew up and became Magicians. I was not very young the first time I saw a Magician in person. I was a little bit older, around 20 or 21 years old and I saw this Magician at a mall in Ithaca which is about half an hour from where I grew up in New York. This Magician was selling little beginner Magic Tricks from a kiosk and I had never seen anything like that before. Sure, I'd seen Magic on TV but it isn't the same as seeing Magic happen right in front of you. It blew my mind. So I bought a few tricks, I went home and learned how to do them and I fell in love with Magic. Fast-forward about a week later, I decide I want to learn more. So I go back to the same mall, to see the same guy at the same kiosk but this time...he was selling sunglasses. In other words, the first Magician I ever saw wasn't a Magician at all. It was just some guy selling stuff at a mall. But he was a Magician to me. One of the tricks the "Man in the Kiosk" did for me that day involved two small, plastic rings. He put the two rings in his hand and he told me to blow, when he opened his hand the rings were magically linked together. As you can tell from the video above, I recently started performing a version of this trick in Impossibilities. I guess you could call it a homage to the man who changed my life. Funny enough, he'll probably never know.
